Pirastro Gamba Bass (Tenor) Strings
More Images
It is still possible to use plain gut for the lower strings of baroque period instruments. However the thickness and stiffness of the single filament is an impairment to both sound and playability.
Pirastro's Gamba Bass (Tenor), Treble, and Alto are the modern version of these classic strings. The development of copper spinning in the 1600's led to the development of metal wound strings. Pirastro offers this set with silver plated copper winding on the lower strings. It is now possible to have this authentic string with today's quality standards.
The top 3 gut strings are straight on the tailpiece end and must be tied. The bottom 3 wound strings come with a tie knot already in place.
These are sold as sets only. Individual strings can be special ordered by request.
The Gamba Bass (Tenor) set includes:
- D1: Gut 14.25 ga
- A2: Gut 18.0 ga
- E3: Gut 22.5 ga
- C4: Aluminum over gut 24.0 ga
- G5: Silver plated copper over gut 24.5 ga
- D6: Silver plated copper over gut 29.0 ga
Pirastro Evah Pirazzi Gold rosin is recommended.
